It’s apple season! Make these fun mini caramel apples with your kids.
You’ll need:
- 1 - 2 green apples (1 apple yields about 20 minis)
- 1/2 - 1 pound caramel candies
- sea salt
- toppings of choice (assorted sprinkles, chopped nuts, assorted smashed candies, mini chocolate chips, smashed Oreos, smashed pretzels)
- 54 - 50 pretzel sticks
Here’s how you make them:
- Melt the caramel according to the packing directions.
- With a melon baller, cut out 20 mini balls per apple.
- Place toppings on individual paper plates – one plate per topping.
- Dry mini apple balls with a paper towel to remove outside moisture. On the rounded side of the mini apple, secure a toothpick and immediately dip the apple in the warm caramel. Plunge on an angle and swirl carefully to cover (not to loosen the apple from the toothpick). Remove and slightly scrape off any excess caramel back into pan. Dry the flat side of the apple, facing down on a parchment-lined cookie sheet, just until caramel begins to set.
- Press the bottom of the mini caramel apple in individual toppings, then place in a mini paper liner.
- Remove the toothpick and replace it with a pretzel. Continue this process until you have covered all of the apples. Keep them in a cool place until it’s time to serve.
