The Perfect Holiday Appetizer for Our Vegan Friends: Vegan Sausage Balls Appetizers Holidays
I often feel badly for my vegan friends during the holidays when I look at all the tasty appetizers and see nothing – or next to nothing – that they can eat. So here’s a great veganized version of a favorite holiday appetizer that will allow you to include them!
Bonus: They’re quick and easy to make! My friend Rachel shared pictures of her vegan sausage balls and they looked absolutely delicious, so I just had to share the recipe with you. She found it at www.makeitdairyfree.com. The only required ingredients are ground vegan sausage, pancake mix, vegan cheddar and plant-based milk. However, spices can make the recipe all the better.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Servings: Makes approximately 20 1-inch balls
Ingredients
• 14 -16 ounces vegan ground sausage (original recipe uses Lightlife)
• 2 cups pancake mix (original recipe calls for Bisquick)
• 2 cups vegan cheddar cheese
• 1/4 cup grated vegan Parmesan (original recipe uses Violife)
• 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
• 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1/4 teaspoon cayenne, optional
• 1/2 cup dairy-free milk (original recipe uses oat milk)
Here's how to make it:
- Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. Use a potato masher or your hands to mix well.
- Use a cookie scoop to make 1-inch balls. Place on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
- Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with a dipping sauce like cocktail sauce, barbecue sauce, vegan nacho cheese or ketchup.
