Cuisine: American
Prep time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Cook time: 30 minutes
Total time: 2 hours
Servings: 1 dozen 12 inch Breadsticks
Ingredients:
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 cup lukewarm water
2 tablespoons honey
1 1/2 teaspoons dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
4 cloves of garlic chopped finely and made into a paste
1/2 cup of shredded cheese mix of mozzarella and cheddar
Garnish:
1/4 cup salted butter, melted
1 clove of garlic smashed
Optional grated Parmesan cheese
Flakey sea salt
Here's How to Make them:
Step 1: In a small bowl, dissolve the honey in the water and sprinkle in the yeast. Wait a few minutes until the yeast mix produces a few bubbles.
Step 2: In a large bowl, add the flour and mix with a wooden spoon until well combined. The dough should come together but still be sticky. Add the garlic, cheese and herbs. Knead to combine and out 3 minutes.
Transfer to a clean, oiled bowl and let it rise at room temperature until it doubles for about an hour.
Step 3: Turn the dough onto a clean, lightly oiled work surface. Press the dough out to a rectangle approximately 12x20 inches. Use a sharp, oiled knife and cut 12 long bread sticks.
Step 4: Twist and place on a prepared baking sheet and top with egg wash and flakey salt. Allow to rest for 30 minutes covered.
Step 5: Preheat the oven to 350' F and bake for about 20 minutes or until the breadsticks turn golden.
Step 6: Heat the butter and garlic in a small saucepan or microwave while the breadsticks are in the oven. Brush each breadstick with garlic-infused melted butter when they come out of the oven and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese or flakey salt. Serve warm.
