To make this Southern cake you need a few basic baking ingredients. Here is what you need to grab from your pantry and fridge: butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, eggs, all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, salt and buttermilk. The ingredients come together with the help of an electric mixer, and bake up in about 30 to 40 minutes in the oven.
No one will turn away a slice of this incredible chocolate cake for dessert. - Let the cake cool completely before adding ganache or frosting to it doesn't melt into the cake.
- Store the cake in a cake carrier or airtight container.
Here's how to make it:
- In a stand mixer or with an electric mixer, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract and almond extract for about 2 minutes. Add the eggs and beat well.
- In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add a little of the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, until everything is incorporated. Beat for about 1 minute after ingredients are combined.
- Pour the batter into a greased and floured Bundt pan. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 30 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Remove the cake from the oven and cool about 20 minutes before removing from the pan. If frosting or adding ganache, let the cake cool completely.
