Years ago I was lucky enough to live next door to a wonderful Vietnamese family. The wife, and my friend, cooked amazing food and was always bringing over bowls of homemade pho, crispy homemade spring rolls and egg rolls, Vietnamese short ribs and other delicious Vietnamese culinary delights. These tasty meals inspired me to explore Vietnamese ingredients and flavors.

This Vietnamese pork chops air fryer recipe made my whole house smell amazing, and made me miss my friend and those good times. This juicy pork chop recipe is definitely in my dinner recipe rotation not only because of all the feels, but because it is so delicious and easy to make.

To make this Asian-inspired, high-protein recipe you will need the following ingredients from your fridge and pantry: thin-cut pork chops, fish sauce, fresh garlic, onion powder, dark soy sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, granulated sugar and a lime for juicing.

The pork chops are coated in the marinade that's full of Vietnamese flavors, then quickly air fried for about 12 to 14 minutes. Let the pork chops rest a minute or two before serving them up. So delicious (aka thơm ngon)!

Cooking Tip: If you cut small slits around the outside of the pork chops with kitchen shears, the pork chops will not curl up when you cook them.

Serve the pork chops for a high-protein dinner with your favorite side dishes. I served mine with fresh sugar snap peas, fried rice and pickled ginger.

Ingredients

• 4 thin-cut pork chops
• 3 tablespoons fish sauce
• 3 cloves garlic, minced
• 2 teaspoons onion powder
• 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
• 2 tablespoons soy sauce (I used low-sodium soy sauce)
• 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
• 1 1/2 tablespoons honey
• 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
• juice from 1/2 a lime

Here's how to make it: 

1. Put all of the marinade ingredients into a food storage bag or a shallow baking dish. Season with black pepper, if desired. (You could add other flavorful ingredients to the marinade like lemongrass or fresh ginger.)
2. Squish the bag or stir to combine the ingredients.
3. Put the pork chops into the marinade. Turn the bag or stir to coat the pork chops. (If you have time, you can marinate the pork chops for 30 minutes and up to overnight. But this is optional. If you marinate for over 30 minutes, put them into the fridge.)
4. Put the pork chops into the air fryer in a single layer. (I like to use an air fryer liner for easier cleanup.)
5. Air fry at 400 degrees F for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the pork chops are cooked through. Pork is cooked through at 145 degrees F internal temperature on a food thermometer. (You can turn the pork chops over halfway through the cooking time. I do not turn my pork chops because I like them to get those charred, flavorful edges.)
6. Remove the pork chops from the air fryer and let them rest a few minutes before serving. Garnish with lime wedges, if desired. Store any leftover pork chops in an airtight container in the fridge.
