Do you take Benadryl or antidepressants? Medscape reports that a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine shows that anticholinergic drugs may increase risk of dementia. The drugs in question are estimated to be taken by about 20 percent of older adults for various conditions. The drugs include: 

• common antihistamines sold OTC as sleep aids (diphenhydramine)
• allergy relief (chlorpheniramine, oxybutynin) 
• tricyclic antidepressants (doxepin, amitriptyline)
