Sarah Silverman Uses Twitter to Change a Man's Life: Read the Amazing Story! Make a Difference
In what may be the best Twitter exchange of 2017, Sarah Silverman chose kindness and empathy over anger toward one of her followers. In an exchange that started with him calling her a vulgar name, Silverman then went to his profile and saw that he had a serious back injury. Instead of fighting his hate with more hate, she sought more information about his history and injuries. Silverman responded to his insult with, “see what happens when u choose love.”
The follower, Jeremy Jamrozy, then detailed a sexual trauma and Silverman went on to seek help within her Twitter followers in his area. Within the next 24 hours, the Airrosti Pain Management Center had contacted Jamrozy to help with his back injuries. Silverman then followed up with Twitter users a few days later and set up a GoFundMe page to help cover Jamrozy’s medical costs.
Silverman has raised more than $4,000 for Jamrozy and had only set a goal of $150. Though we cannot change our own past responses to others, we can all learn from this and choose kindness in our daily interactions with others. Anger is often a secondary emotion, masking hurt or fear.
