"Bourdain Day": Dine, Drink & Discover to Honor the Late Chef Anthony Bourdain Food Opinion Tip of the Day

Anthony Bourdain would have turned 62 on Monday, June 25. In an effort to honor his ethos, my buddy and I decided that on the 25th of every month, we’re going to seek out a unique, offbeat place to dine, drink and discover.

Unfortunately, our maiden gastronomic adventure was bumped from the 25th because our target eatery was closed on Monday. We did, however, kick it off June 27. We dined at Queen of Sheeba in West Palm Beach, Fla. It’s an authentic Ethiopian restaurant that serves traditional Ethiopian cuisine and serves St. George Beer, which is the oldest beer in Ethiopia, being brewed there since 1922.

The dining experience is communal, where all of the dishes are served on a single platter for the table to share. What makes the experience different is that Ethiopian food isn’t eaten with utensils. Instead, they provide you with rolls of injera, which is a spongy sourdough bread that you use to mop up the food. They also have a snazzy coffee setup. Apparently, Ethiopia is where “coffee arabica,” the coffee plant, originated. 

We ate something new, we drank something new and we embraced a different culture. Our next “Bourdain Day” is scheduled for July 25.
