How to Grow an Avocado Tree From Just a Pit (It Really Works!) Activities
Kids may try a new food if they get hands-on with it. A fun project is to grow an avocado tree! Remove and wash the pit, then push three toothpicks into the thickest part. Suspend it over a glass of water so that the base is covered with water. Place in a bright location. In about 3 to 6 weeks the pit will sprout. When the stem is at least 5 inches tall, pinch off the top leaves and wait for more. Plant it in potting soil when it’s about 8 inches tall. You’ll still have to buy avocados for a few more years, but kids will love watching their tree grow!
