Ingredients
- 1 to 1 1/2 pounds okra, tops removed and sliced
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- buttermilk or milk
- hot sauce (optional)
- vegetable oil
Here's how to make it:
- Put the flour into a paper bag or onto a plate. Season with salt and pepper.
- Put the sliced okra into a bowl. Add enough buttermilk or milk to cover. Add hot sauce, to taste, if using.
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat (about 375 degrees F).
- Remove the okra from the buttermilk and put it straight into the flour. Shake to coat.
- Fry the okra in the hot oil until golden brown. Remove to paper towels. Season with a little salt.
