It’s March, but the weather where I live still can’t decide if it’s winter or spring. Lucky for me, I had this delicious turkey chili recipe to try when the temperature plummeted last week. Just put everything into the slow cooker and, before you know it, you'll have a hearty meal for the family.

To make this gluten-free slow-cooker three-bean chili recipe, you will need just a few simple ingredients. Here is your shopping list: ground turkey, a can of fire-roasted tomatoes, a can of tomato sauce, a can of kidney beans, a can of black beans, a can of pinto beans, an onion, a can of chopped green chilies, chili powder, garlic powder, dried oregano, ground cumin and whatever you want to top the finished chili with. The slow cooker does most of the work for this easy chili recipe.

Ingredients

1 - 1 1/2 pounds lean ground turkey (I used 93 percent lean)
28 ounces (1 can) diced fire-roasted tomatoes 
16 ounces (1 can) tomato sauce 
15.5 ounces (1 can) pinto beans, rinsed and drained 
15.5 ounces (1 can) kidney beans, rinsed and drained 
15 ounces (1 can) reduced-sodium black beans, rinsed and drained 
4.5 ounces (1 can) chopped green chilies 
1 small onion, chopped 
2 tablespoons chili powder 
1 tablespoon garlic powder 
1 teaspoon dried oregano 
1 pinch ground cumin
optional toppings: sour cream, cilantro, avocado , shredded cheese, etc.

Instead of ground turkey, you could use ground beef.

To save on cleanup, line the slow cooker with a slow-cooker liner.

Store any leftover chili in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.

Here's how to make it:

Layer all the ingredients in the slow cooker. Cook on high for 3 to 4 hours or low 5 to 7 hours.
When the chili is done, stir and make sure to break apart the turkey. Serve warm with any desired toppings.
