Men in Early Childhood Education: My Interview With Male Teacher Floyd Kyle by Mike Prochaska

Floyd Kyle works in the Early Childhood Education field in Victoria, Australia. Here are a few of his thoughts about working with children!

Q. How did you get into this field?

“I had been working in a primary school doing bridging the gap for 18 months before I decided to do my Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Education. Prior to that I had done volunteer work as a teacher’s aid for about six months.”

Q. What do you see as the advantages of having male teachers?

“A unique way at looking at children and child development. Also, as many children do not have a male role model at home, they get a positive role model at kindergarten. Finally, it demonstrates that men are capable teachers as well.”

Q. Anything else you want to tell us about working with young children?

“A very interesting and rewarding career, ever changing and extremely rewarding.”

Q. What’s your favorite memory working with kids?

“I love seeing the children evolve and develop throughout the year. Also love seeing the wonder in their eyes when we are learning about nature, gardening and looking for bugs.”
