"When depression has you in its ugly grip, nothing feels good. Nothing feels possible. For me, having kids has kept me alive. Exercise keeps me alive. But truthfully, some days just barely." This is key to helping people understand depression and suicide. Thank you for sharing this, Dawn Taylor . Thank you for helping to make a difference. Hugs to you. xoxo

It’s impossible to know what depression feels like if you’ve never had it so it’s not that people mean to be insensitive but it’s still very thoughtless to assume an act so personal and devastating is one that suicidal people choose out of selfishness. It’s pain like no other.

So many people need to read this and internalize it!!

Don't get me wrong......my heart aches deeply for the family and friends who are left behind. But not only do I not consider suicide "selfish", it takes my breath away to try to imagine their thoughts in those final moments (or hours or days or weeks or months some suffer through). Life can be heartless in so many ways, and hope is sometimes the only thing we have to cling to. The literal hopelessness they must feel is unimaginable and absolutely heartbreaking.

It is very sad for all involved. It is hard to imagine that feeling, I have been there and I hope not to face it again.

Thank you Dawn Taylor for posting this. I have depression, panic disorder, anxiety disorder, and agoraphobia. I was at my therapy session talking to my therapist about this exact subject on Monday. I told my therapist hearing people call it a selfish act is dismissive. I've had attempts but thinking about my son and my husband intervening has helped me. We all have to keep checking and loving each other.
