Fathers Eve: How & Why Some Dads Celebrate Father's Day the Night Before by Mike Prochaska

Father’s Day is coming up on Sunday, but have you heard of Fathers Eve? Honestly, I didn’t even know about it until a few years ago when John Francis and Fathers Eve sponsored my trip to my first home dad convention.

Fathers Eve started one night before Father’s Day in St. Paul, Minn., when John Francis invited some dads over to his garage to spend some “guy time” together, which over the years has turned into an annual holiday called Fathers Eve. Fathers Eve events have now been held in 42 cities, including in the U.K., Costa Rica and Canada. Across the U.S., dads have gathered at private residences, restaurants, pubs, businesses and celebrated together with an 8 p.m. toast to all dads.

Fathers Eve gives dads a chance to talk with other dads about parenting, share dad stories and meet new dads. It’s a nice dad’s night out, just to hang out with other dads who deal with the same things and talk about our kids – and just about being a dad. It doesn’t matter if you’re a stay-at-home dad or working dad, we are all dads and have a lot in common.

The holiday is not just an excuse for dads to connect and bond, it is also about doing good for the community. Fathers Eve events have raised money for dad charities ever year.
