Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson is a book we keep coming back to each year around Halloween and it never gets old! We stumbled on the Netflix TV short first and then just had to get the book. The rhyme scheme is so much fun, easily making it one of our timeless favorites. The book illustrations by Axel Scheffler are darling and the Oscar-nominated film matches the look flawlessly.

It's a darling story. A sweet, little witch and her cat are on an adventure, traveling high above the treetops on her magic broomstick, but she's a little clumsy and drops a few things. Each time they descend to retrieve the wind-blown item, they meet a new friend and she can't help but let them hop on. The broom can't quite handle it though and it snaps! Soon, they find themselves face to face with a dragon who isn't shy about his hunger. The new friends have to set their differences aside and work together to help save her.

If you haven't watched it or read it yet, it comes highly recommended by this book-loving momma and her 4-year-old, who wants you to know the dragon is just a "little bit" scary. I'll never tire of her reaching for my hand!
